Maybe we weren't meant to have one!

I meant to post this two years ago..I didn't but re-read it and I like it even more a year later. I hope you enjoy.
Ok so I was getting a Script filled at our Local HEB Pharmacy, and as I was going through the motions of swipping my card, and signing the electronic device I noticed something. The pen that I was supposed to use to sign my name was broken and put back together with scotch tape, as if one of the pharmacist had thier 3rd grader come up and do it for them. I looked at the pen and and said,"Looks like you guys need a new pen." Then the lady promtly responded saying, "You know once we put a new pen on the pad someone breaks it, it happens all the time. I guess we weren't meant to have a pen." Ok, pause for a minute and re-read that statement. "I guess we weren't meant to have a pen." Really, I thought, just because someone broke it totally negates the fact that you need a pjavascript:void(0)lastic pen thingy to sign the electronic device? I would have to disagree with the young lady, and say she couldn't have made a more inaccurate statement. I know it is only a pen, but think about what is being said here.
Many people say this about much bigger things in life, like when a spouse has an affair on the other a divorce usually insues and the one who was abandonded may say, "Well maybe we weren't meant to be married.". Other instances where a car breaks down time and time again, and the owner states, "Well I guess this car was not meant to be ours, maybe someone else would have had better luck.". There are so many situations that I can think of where this fits, so let me give you my perspective on that pen, and maybe it will shed some light on real world issues that matter, more than a trivial pen at a pharmacy window.
The pen was meant to be there by virtue of the electronic device, the pen has a purpose and when used properly performs that purpose quite well. The pen's place in life can't be erased just because someone decided to use a little to much elbow grease when signing thier name. Maybe the person using the pen abused the fact that the pharmacy offers a simple tool to make thier transaction a little more convienent. I know you are saying enough already, I am getting to my point, just hang in there a little longer.
See the pen like us, or the gifts God has given us are meant to serve a purpose. When we or our gifts are used properly God can get the glory and our potential can be exceeded in all areas. This can only happen through the avenue of God's strength, and wisdom, apart from these we risk missing that purpose simply because of pride. And neither should we say that if something goes off course a bit, or life throws us a curve, that something or someone wasn't meant to be.
